20 minutes to paint, 60 minutes to sleep
He stares at me while I cook dinner, while I talk with friends, while I do homework...he even stares out the picture window and overlooks the neighbors. He might be 2D but he certainly is an intense presence on the easel. I guess that's why I have a hard time turning him to face the wall even though he wears me out.
As usual, I have had to "sit" with this painting for awhile. After not touching it for a couple of weeks now, I intensely went after the canvas with a course brush this morning. This happened. What's next? Who can know?
(Meanwhile "his" counterpart is running around in Garden City and before going to bed tonight will dance around here in KC.)
Goodnight!

it was a good thing..still seeing the emotion but you managed to 'soften' the features without removing the feeling...I struggled with a watercolor of my dad weeks after he passed away. oh that was a persistent painting ..would not leave me alone until I said it was enough. and every time I see it I see things I want to add or take away.
I love that quote by one of the greats..cant for the life of me remember who now..but when he was asked which was his 'best' painting he answered, 'the next one'. lol~ I can relate with everything I work on..glass or jewelry.
I let that site go so no that email would not reach me. You can contact me at admin@deborahlambson.com
Enjoy your day Melanie! keep your palette wet today~ :-) (thats an irish artist blessing I think)
Love you narrative; you captured Cody's look and intensity so powerfully. Thanks for sharing your process.

Intense painting. Very cool. Love seeing the progress!
Wow... Very intense stuff. I like the hard lines and angles. And thankful that he's not staring at me, but away. whew.
Wow! You really captured the feelings in this painting...I think I saw that look when we were sitting around the campfire...lol
I keep thinking of this painting. It sticks with a person even after closing the browser.
