Sunday Afternoon Painter

I bought this giant (3'X4') canvas a week ago and I've been drooling over it ever since. I had my painting all planned out, the layers, the dry time, the lights, the varnish, the sanding, etc...but then it rained all day today...and I caved, proving that I might always be an illustrative, Sunday afternoon painter.

Last time my friend Ben painted an awesome Picasso-like 3 figure painting, he took photos of it along the way. I really liked watching it evolve, so I thought I'd do the same here. Next time some of you work on a piece, will you indulge me and take some photos for me along the way? I mean it, I almost enjoy that more than seeing the final piece. Thanks.

Oh, if the image looks familiar, it's from the cover of the lent zine. Here's the reason I'm so obsessed with this image:

I wore out my cassette listening to this back in the day. It's from The Turning by Leslie (aka Sam) Phillips. Next to
Lead Me On, this has to be one of the best "Christian" (I hate using the qualifier, but that's the point) albums ever. I just know Calana will remember it.

BTW, did you see that Paul just had a post kind of related to "The Turning"? It's here. I also have that cassette.

i was getting nervous, i didn't recognize the song until she started singing "i will carry you". then it triggered a memory. :) i think i wore out the lead me on cassette too. i didn't know of leslie til i married paul.

love the painting too. it's so interesting to see the evolution from beginning to end...i see why you like to observe works in progress.
