Why We Do What We Do When We Do What We Do

(a valiant attempt to explain)

Since Jerry (the guy on the answering machine) came out last night (with 'Bill the Boarder') I had to bring my China photos. Eventually I ended up showing complete strangers photos from our time in China (yes, I was completely sober). They all asked what everybody else asks: "Why China?!?!?" I usually launch into the "for-some-people-it's-about-Paris-or-Italy-but-for-me-has-been-about-China..." speech and then I talk about the Three Gorges Dam and how my camera (a form life support) went kaput just before I finally stood where I wanted to stand for 10+ years. I remember driving to that Dam thinking that I better really take it all in since I'd never have the video/images to relive from my own camera.

Once I stood on The Dam (let's face it, it's the mother of all dams) I remember thinking that it was actually pretty cool that my camera couldn't capture it, that it would only live on in my memory.

I wish I would have taken more photos from last night. I'd like one of me and Kris or one of Jerry and Bill. I'd like photos of the completely stoned strangers I talked with, touched. Anyhow, there isn't really any comprehensive way to capture whatever goes on when we do what we do...but I guess that's okay;

...at least we have the posters to remind us.
