The day delivered---though there was some really great news that came with the tough spot. There were several difficult times when I touched the grey pearls on my wrist and thought to myself, "Every silver lining's got a Touch of Grey", and then I would take a deep breath, smile at Jerry Garcia's free spirit, smile and feel better.
Must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Paint by Number morning sky
Looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don't care
'Cause it's all right
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
I see you've got your fist out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I got the gist of it
But it's all right
Sorry that you feel that way
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a
Touch of grey
*My dad generously gave me a huge stash of pearls just before I left for China in 2006. Strangely, I think how he bought the pearls is part of how I got to China (the trader who was supposed to take me over there must have needed money to go with me, so Dad bought the pearls from him). Anyhow, I bought a couple more strands while I was there---but these are more meaningful because they came from my dad in that way. Also, I remember that the day I received the pearls I put all of them on my baby niece. She could barely walk---they so heavy and were draped from her neck, all over and down to her feet. I remember she traipsed around like a queen! Eventually her sister and brother would be born and later cut their teeth on some of those same pearls.
