These two pieces originate from having (as Dr. Rathbun would say) clay feet.
I once read about metal guiding the jewelry making process, how it tells the observant creator what to do. It is true we can manipulate what we are given---but I also think metal (or any artistic media) mysteriously knows how to mirror its creator.

Agreed. I feel that way about words, that they somehow know what needs to be said and they'll guide the way for me.
Your words made me think of a video I watched the other day (a TED Talk on "Nurturing Creativity" by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love) and she had some interesting insights on the creative process, specifically on how the artist is inspired, how the artist has suffered because of it, and how there is some mysterious something "out there" that guides the creative process.
