Brush Ch'i

Yesterday was a fabulous day. I am at an exciting time in my school work and I feel my whole self rising to the occasion. I am certain this energy played out yesterday in these pieces. I had several hours to myself and I felt zero timidity with my brush. Sometimes it's hard to take risks on canvas, even though oil can always be reworked. (See photo 2---that painting is at least 10 layers deep.) I like very much like the idea that I am growing more comfortable with my brush strokes and the place from which they originate. To some it might look like a wild mess---to me it's just life working itself out.
Even this painting was taken off the dining room wall and worked more to a finish. I still have some white (over blue sky) and yellow ochre to add back in. I am finishing this painting now because I believe it is the one that will hang in my new office at my internship. Remember, I painted it for the Greensburg auction and then bought it back for myself? I guess I sensed it wasn't done/I wasn't done with it. I am so glad I kept it for this time in my life. It still reminds me I am being carried and sheltered...and perhaps my clients will also be comforted by this.

Beautiful. I love it that life is such a process. It's not done--we're not done. And I love that! I think you're right: the painting does have a calming effect. It'll be perfect in your office :)Can't wait for that day for you!
