We Dance

Acrylic 12"X12" 2011
This one's up for my Mamba. In case she ever needs to visit it again.

As I revisited We Dance this morning, I saw how similar/different it is to the one I painted below (6 years earlier---and is a response to the Sunday School version I remember from childhood).

Though painted at different times and I did not intentionally coordinate them, these two paintings have important similarities/differences: The cliff and staff are still very much there. The encircling vultures have been replaced with fluffy clouds. And look what separates me (the sheep) from the cliff! The staff has moved from a distant place to a proactive position. The Good Shepherd might not make a formal appearance in We Dance but His presence is still powerfully there. He has moved from being removed and external and His face entirely unknown---to being something familiar, something brighter and SO WITH ME he is actually embodied IN me. Not only have I moved off the ledge, but I'm dancing near it---and I'm completely unafraid as both child and adult.

...oh, and one more thing about that painting. My adult head is a more evolved nautilus.

Melanie, I have been loving these posts~thanks for posting this one for me. Your insights/comparison of these 2 paintings are interesting. You would love to hear C. Baxter Krueger talk about the Trinitarian dance. Thanks for sharing your heart when you explained how the paintings came to be. Love you, Mamba
