Pearls under X-ray

This is a strand of pearls I know to be glass nucleated. You have to be in almost total darkness when you view the image to see how the center is more dense than the edges. You can also see the drill lines.

Here's the Goodwill pendant in the cross-hair. Obviously, the metal blocked the baroque pearl image, but the image shows white ghosting around the nucleus of the smaller pearls. Cody wondered if that could be drilled space or a nucleus.
I took the baroque pearl out of the setting to get a better look. A change in density can be identified over to the left side of the pearl. I'm pretty sure this means the baroque pearl is cultured.

That's Cody's hand taking the X-rays for my curiosity. Moments after I snapped this shot Cody screamed and fell to the ground, popped up and then he took off running. When I came inside he held a flying water roach by a tweezer. He had to PULL it out of his ear canal!!! EW! (We were doing all this outside with the back of his work truck open. I wonder what the neighbors think of us? Ha!)

Cody's equipment is Fluoroscopy (live Xray made to find kidney stones---and yes, my dear husband can spot even the tiniest ones on a moving target) so he doesn't actually develop film. Instead he shoots stills on a monitor. I took photos of the stills. Regular film would more conclusively show what I'm looking for. Maybe next time I go see his buddies at the clinic I'll bring a stash of pearls with me. I know for a fact they have X-rayed lesser objects, i.e. hamburgers from various fast food joints. (They were looking for bone chips, and they confirmed the nastiest truth.)

A few words about my dedicated husband: Yesterday over breakfast Cody shared the sweetest words with me about me and my art. I know I am lucky to be married to someone like him. Sometimes it is interesting to watch him reconcile his artistic temperament/expression and his profession. Cody has navigated this space better at times, and worse at other times. Still, he remains dedicated, keeping each of his two disparate hats viable. He lives his personal legend, thereby enabling (he has been my sugar daddy through school) and empowering (I daily see it is possible through his life) me to live mine.
