Imagine If...

It feels so right to have oil paint stuck under my fingernails---to have linseed oil in my nasal passages, again. I worked on this piece last weekend. Here's how the canvas started back on a mild January evening. I remember the day well because it was unseasonably warm and I was excited to paint outside after months of being indoors. My friend requested the piece for his office. It will finally land on his wall soon.

The inspiration for the painting:

The song/video below (see 5:15 if you don't have time to enjoy the whole thing)

+ Equifinality

+ the beautiful inner child whose wings we (my friend is also a therapist, though he is licensed and I am not yet) help discover/repair

+ the bliss of flight

+ peaceful imagination

= Imagine If

A quick side note:

Just tonight I read the following sentences in the fictional story I am reading:
"You can ask me, but I might not answer, that's all. I don't think painters have the answers about their own paintings. No one knows anything about a painting except the painting itself. Anyway, a painting has to have some kind of mystery to it to make it work."

So far, sharing my meaning continues to be an important part of the creative process for me. I sincerely hope my sharing does not take away any mystery for you. I risk sharing because I know my own meaning evolves and changes over time...and I believe the same is possible for you. So, don't be afraid to give it your own meaning. I might trade my own meaning for yours some day.

(I will take a brighter photo of the finished painting in the sunlight soon)

When I first saw this painting, it reminded me of the lighted seed pods from Avatar -- each pod has a unique vibrancy. This is a really interesting painting.
