This is a portrait of my friend. Yes, that's his wife and children in there, too---but this is about him and his connection to them. An abstract genogram, maybe? An abstract portrait? I don't know what to call it.
This guy, his wife, my husband and I had this wonderful 6 hour long conversation the other night. We talked about art, guitar, guns, home schooling, parenting, grandparents, etc. It was a deep conversation full of tears and laughter.
I woke up the next day and needed to process through some of the shared thoughts, which I did as I painted. This emerged.
The blue indicates spoken truth. His children are shown green (cultivation) in the shape of the Nautilus because of this poem and his purposeful gate keeping in their lives. The wavy lines represent emanating love, blood, umbilical cords, connection, spiritual affinity.

Though this painting is full of many symbols they are meant to be experienced as a whole. ]['s spirit is inseparable from everything represented here, shown between the brackets.
