Exquisite cadaver is a game first played by the Surrealists, but versions of it are still around today. Think MadLibs or the latest Target bunch of coupons to arrive in your mail.
Last week I asked a few of you to send me random words. All of the words I received went into 6 different "hats" and I drew them out randomly to complete pre-structured sentences. The structure was "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun"; the structure of the first game actually played by the Surrealists. (Their first sentence was, "The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine", hence the name.) Here are some of your sentences:
The chocolate dog hastily walked the creamy car.
The brown camera quickly enshrined the exasperating heart.
The sweet bungalow lazily skated the cool water.
The pink knife lovingly waffled the fantastic tea.
The familiar dimension quickly ran the fancy diatribe.
The silvery child knowingly followed the arctic bed.
Sme of my friends indulged me this weekend by playing a few rough rounds of the drawing version. I say rough because the drawing was preceded by a few beers, some champagne, etc. and one mad game (think lots of pulled chest hair) of Quelf. With the paper folded, and unaware of what was drawn before us, we each took turns drawing sections of the body. Because my friends seem to be preoccupied with being exageratingly anatomically correct, and because they are quite skilled, I have chosen to edit them. But the idea is still cool, huh?
