This week I felt daring enough to try a ring in sterling silver.
I bought a 6" X 3" slab o' 18 guage sterling for $65 bucks. (*ouch* I won't have to get the silver so heavy now that I know a lighter guage will work.) It's probably a good thing I got the heavy, because this ring is also for Cody, and with any luck he will wear it! It says, "ILOVEMELANIE". (I swear I'm not just super vain. He has talked about getting my name tatooed around his finger for years.) I'll take better photos once it's cleaned up and polished. My teacher says we can clean up the seam a lot yet.
The rest of the sheet of sterling will likely be melted down to make a ring I want to cast. I'm already working on the wax carving for the casting. I really hope the simple design works out because I'm super excited about encorporating the black stingray we brought back from China. There are other ways I could set the stingray, but I don't like the final result as much as I think I'll like the casted result. Of course I'll post photos as I document the process and eventually end up with a final product.
