I got to spend time with several amazing people all day this last Saturday. Kymm Hughes, of Topeka, opened her Prairie Glass art studio and I taught a metal clay play day. It was a real priviledge to work in her studio and beautiful home. My eyes about popped out of my skull when I first saw her GREEN house! The whole peak on the left side of the house is her studio---she keeps several large kilns, tons of pretty glass and art pieces. No doubt I'll be going to the next workshop she leads and at least one of her Christmas open houses this fall. Her glass was really, really cool---not your mama's art glass.
After the whole day of play I crashed at Julie's (college roomie) place with her and her sister, Laura. We stayed up talking into the wee hours of the morning. When I woke up to cramping legs (being on my feet in heels all the prior day) I decided to sneak out the back door and watch the sun rise over the Flint Hills. I left Julie and Laura a note...and hopefully they've already forgiven me for not saying bye. Anyhow goodbyes are overrated.
